At Beard, you will meet colleagues and receive support, guidance and mentorship from people across the business, including our leadership team.

By the end of your placement you will be working independently under the supervision of your manager. At this point, it is not unusual for year out students to provide holiday cover and assume additional responsibilities.

Many students who have spent a placement year with us return to university with an offer of employment after graduation.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

A placement year is critical for bringing together your knowledge and understanding of academic teaching on live sites.

It’s excellent preparation for your final year of learning, and provides valuable experience to boost your employability on graduation.

  • You will work on a site alongside Site Managers, Quantity Surveyors or Building Services Managers
  • You will be expected to take responsibility and contribute as a member of the project team

WHAT TRAINING WILL I RECEIVE?

  • You will work alongside experienced professionals across various disciplines throughout your placement and will receive structured training aimed at developing your interpersonal and management skills, with a focus on your chosen area
  • You will be assigned a mentor to help you establish yourself in the business and to provide guidance and support
  • Relevant safety training is provided, dependent on career path
  • You will be supported in continuing professional development to ensure your technical knowledge and professional qualifications are up to date
