Careers with ambition

Great things start with great people

Employing people you believe in, then believing in those people. It’s been the Beard way since 1892.

PEOPLE FIRST

Putting people first means realising our potential to do good. From regeneration to employment and skills creation.

We're proud to have been awarded Gold Investors in People since 2011, for our management excellence and our commitment to developing and empowering our people.

I love working for Beard. Whether it’s with internal colleagues or external partners, everyone works together towards the same goals, in a friendly and open environment, and looking out for each other. It’s great to work for an ethical company, supported by good leadership.

Build your future

We have a long and proud history of training and mentoring people to forge rewarding careers in construction – including some of our current senior managers and directors.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION &
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Estimators and business development professionals fill exciting roles, working with senior managers to develop and implement growth opportunities for the business.

Creative and personable, you will enjoy talking to and meeting new people, communicating with new and existing customers, building relationships, targeting new work streams and winning projects.

Becoming an Estimator

DESIGN

People working in design identify challenges and propose innovative, cost-effective solutions to eliminate health and safety and financial risks during construction.

They take responsibility for planning and the management of technical drawings, applying their technical expertise to oversee the commercial, contractual and programme elements of projects.

CONSTRUCTION

At any time, you will find us working on up to 75 sites across southern England, each presenting its own unique challenges.

We deliver quality projects and turnkey maintenance services. To do this, we need people who can bring fresh thinking and imagination on one hand, and the commercial ability to manage people, budgets and costs on the other.

Starting as an assistant site manager helps to gain valuable hands on experience, and many progress to become contracts managers, project managers or directors.

FINANCE & COMMERCIAL

Construction is a fiercely competitive sector with constant pressure on margins. As a crucial driver of our high performance culture and our business advantage, a career in finance offers you the opportunity to make a real contribution to our continued success.

Our commercial team works alongside in-house design and quantity surveying teams, with one focus: high quality outcomes, on time, on budget and without defects. Working to the Prompt Payment Code, their work is essential to maintaining our position as a construction partner of choice.

Becoming a Quantity Surveyor

Communications,
Human Resources & IT

Providing essential services to operational teams, sites and individuals, you might be dealing with enquiries from other professionals, supporting our people, systems and stakeholders or transporting equipment and plant to site.

At Beard, these colleagues work is varied, but our key requirements aren’t - common sense and a sense of humour, be helpful and resourceful, and above all be able to use your initiative and take ownership.

CRAFTS & TRADES

New entrants to the industry tend to train on the job, through an apprenticeship. You could go on to gain additional qualifications and take on a technical, supervisory or management role.

These team members work with our Services and Repair and Maintenance crew, bringing essential property services to new and existing buildings, the Beard Way.

BUILD YOUR CAREER

We’re looking for enthusiasm for the construction industry and a positive attitude to study and work

Our structured Trainee and Graduate Programmes are suitable for people looking for a career in site or project management, quantity surveying, preconstruction planning or estimating. If you are not sure which area you want to make a career in, don’t worry… gaining on-site experience in all of them will help you to decide.

Training takes place through a mixture of on-the job learning, day release at college or university, mentoring and training courses.

Prefer having your
hands on the tools?

We offer traineeships for tradespeople in multi-trade, and sometimes carpentry. You will work on

projects between £50k to £5m in value. During the traineeship you

will develop to be competent and confident, perfecting your trade

on the job by shadowing a fully trained tradesperson in a supportive culture.

On completion of your traineeship, you'll move into a group of employees

known as 'supported young people'. You'll continue to benefit from a

support network and will take part in a group developmental session

each year covering a specific topic.

We want our trainees of today to be the managers and leaders of tomorrow!
